After years during which director Benno Tempel and his close collaborator Hans Janssen refused to consider Sciam's contribution, dismissing it as "formalistic", it is interesting to note that Mr. Tempel is now "discovering" the "pictorial structure", in other words, the formal aspects of Mondrian's work.
Mr. Tempel now seems to understand that it is precisely the analysis of forms and colors that allows us to see the evolution of Piet Mondrian's oeuvre. This is what Sciam was referring to when, writing to Mr. Janssen, he said to have carried out the most complete analysis of the painter's work, highlighting the thread that links still lifes and landscapes to Broadway and Victory Boogie Woogie.
In the first paragraph of his text Mr. Tempel suggests "similarties in the pictorial composition between figs. 2 and 3". Quite embarassing.
